Thanks for the HRC D.C. office suggestion. I'm surprised that I didn't know about this organization sooner ... of course I should have expected that such a thing existed. For some reason, youth seems to imply that the world began shortly after I showed up. =) My mother always warned me of this fallacy, but I still preferred to be left alone to discover most things independently.
The new credit card merchant account is set-up. Today and tomorrow will be a rush to get it configured with the existing computer system and see that everything works properly. The past six weeks have just been a series of challenges, and I'm worn out -- there is an end to it, which is coming soon.
I usually go to the east coast every six weeks or so ... as you know I was last there in mid January. The next scheduled trip was for March 15th through the 30th or so, with the last several days in Manhattan. At the moment, I haven't decided if I want to go this time, or stay put to oversee my little electronic empire flourish. After Manhattan, I want to go back to Germany for a week or so before returning to Denver ... I suppose what bothers me is that I don't need to travel and see anyone unless I'm certain that my business is making progress back at home. There have been many things set on the back burner, so rather than show up empty handed, I'd prefer to stay and work on them. Of course, if the conditions surrounding life are anything like those of a last-minute college paper, then I'll manage to get everything done just in time to proceed with my travel plans.
If I'm going to be in Manhattan again around the 24th to 30th would it be possible to make use of the guest apartment again? It was super convenient, and while I didn't do much to pay for the use of it, being able to stay there is an enormous benefit to me. :) In any case, I'll let you know if I'm traveling or not. Please say hello to C for me.
Thank you for the quick reply,
Nathan
p.s. I meant to tell you how much I enjoyed the article titled "Social Security III" where you addressed the national debt -- when you pointed out that lots of healthy operations have some debt on the books, it occurred to me that citizens hold a perception that the government shouldn't have any debt at all. What helped me understand the idea that overall debt will shrink relative to the economy as a whole, so long as the debt grows at a slower rate, was the comparison that you made with the house mortgage compared to its value over the 20 year time intervals with the economy in the lead by three percent. Thank you again for such a clear explanation of this subject.
8:20 am - Something New!
Ann,
Actually, it isn't new, but here goes.
After the batch closed last night (around 1:30am or so) new transactions were failing. Any idea why? Could there be a file permission or something that isn't set properly. I notice that the current batch is empty, but I do have five failed registration e-mails here.
Additionally, when the new merchant account goes into place today or tomorrow, it will be necessary to change all the receipts and the link to say "Villa Adriana,Inc." in lieu of International Cafe, Inc. We can toy with that a little later in the day. (It's all over in HTML, and I don't know whether to change it all or just leave it ... I suppose that it should be changed, otherwise people won't know who is who.)
Thanks,
Nathan

It's something to do with the batch closing, as that is what happened when these problems started. No one was in the computer room to unplug it, or to fidget with the settings, at two o'clock in the morning (or I suppose if they were, I hope there is a good explanation for their actions.)
=)
Check permissions on the batch file, or have Aaron try a test transaction from the terminal console. It may also be possible that they have shut off this account before the 25th (which is tomorrow). If a transaction doesn't go through at the terminal, then there should be an error code, which we can use to identify the problem.

9:34 am - In Boulder This Morning
I have to run an errand to Boulder this morning with my Dad which I'm leving for now. If we can stop into the computer room, please let me know.

Thank you for the reply, and I'll make sure to let you know what my plans are. :)
