John McMurray
The Nesbitt Polaroids

In the 1970s, Johnny was one of those superstuds that beefcake fiends hoped and prayed had been photographed graphically in the nude. While he did model for some anatomical studies (with his face obscured) and for some "tame" but very beautiful nudes that were made by the first rate figure study specialist George Hester, Johnny never posed for any "naughty" pictures.

However, in 1978, Johnny did model for a figure drawing by the renowned photo-realist painter Lowell Nesbitt. Lowell always took Polaroids as reference images for these life-sized pencil drawings so that he could work on them in the models' absence.

After Johnny's death (and shortly before his own), Lowell, knowing how much I would treasure these images of the great love of my life, gave me the two Polaroids that he had taken of Johnny.

Sadly, the first one is out of focus. I have made it as crisp as I can with the software that I have, but as the CEO used to say, "40% of something is better than 100% of nothing!"

The black and white Polaroid, on the other hand, is in focus, and what a magnificent adult male body it documents for posterity!
